Older Walden houses need more detail work

Walden grew up along the Wallkill River as a mill and knife-making village, and many of its houses date from those years. On the older streets you find tall wood-frame houses with front porches and wide painted trim, and some have been split into apartments. In an older house the dust sits on ledges. Crown molding, window sills, stair spindles, door tops and radiator fins all hold a gray layer that a quick wipe misses. Wood floors are often worn thin, and a soaking wet mop can do real damage to them.

Walden weather changes what needs cleaning

Orange County gets real winters, and the plowed roads and sidewalks in Walden get salted all season. That salt comes in on boots and dog paws, then dries into a white film on hardwood and tile.
